The construction of these buffs involves using bias cut rolls of woven sisal, which are reinforced with the appropriate thread and sewn in a spiral pattern, based on the specific job requirements. This spiral sewing technique helps reduce fraying and ensures durability. The distance sewn between each row can vary, with quarter inch being the most common option.

The appearance of sewn bias sisal section buffs is flat and compact, with a face that can be altered by adjusting the ply or density. The choice of spiral sewing and treatment greatly influences the flexibility and hardness of the buff. Different sewing types, such as Concentric, Straight Spoke, Radial Arc, and others, can be selected based on the desired outcome.
